At Pilgrim, we believe in protecting these formative years by nurturing the whole child spiritually, emotionally, and academically. Kindergarten - 8th Grade Course Overview

Students engage in foundational studies of Bible History, Church History, Theology, and Hymnology. Our program emphasizes scripture engagement, the memorization of selected Bible passages, Christian music, and preparation for confirmation in the Lutheran faith. All students receive instruction in the doctrines of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), rooted solely in the Word of God. The ultimate mission of this instruction is to equip every student for eternal life.

Our comprehensive language arts program encompasses reading, spelling, composition, literature, and penmanship. In Kindergarten through 6th grade, reading instruction places a strong emphasis on phonics. Throughout all grades, we actively foster a love for literacy by encouraging students to choose and explore wholesome, high-quality books and magazines.

We provide rigorous mathematical instruction designed to equip students for practical, real-world application. The curriculum covers essential mathematical operations, basic metrics, introductory geometry, and algebra. This foundational approach ensures students develop the critical thinking skills necessary for personal and social success.

Through diverse games and sports activities, our physical education program promotes teamwork, teamwork skills, and strong sportsmanship. Above all, it encourages students to appreciate and care for their bodies as wonderful gifts of God’s creation. Regular participation in these planned physical activities is required for all students, with exceptions made only for poor health or serious injury.

Our social studies curriculum includes Arizona state history, U.S. history, world geography, and citizenship. Through these lessons, students discover how individuals interact with their environments and examine how God’s directing hand actively governs the affairs of mankind throughout history.

Students develop a curiosity about the natural world through a robust science curriculum that spans general science, astronomy, earth science, biology, health, physics, and introductory chemistry. Lessons focus on exploration, scientific inquiry, and understanding the physical world.

Early computer exposure begins in 1st and 2nd grade. By 5th through 8th grade, students transition into formal required instruction covering keyboarding, word processing, and digital collaboration through Google Docs. Students interact with hardware and software through educational games, life-like simulations, interactive tutorials, and document creation.

Art classes introduce students to new mediums, the core principles of design, and the study of influential artists. This creative outlet gives students the opportunity to express themselves while learning to appreciate historical works of art and the striking beauty of God’s designs in nature.
